Biography of Thomas Jones Wooten

Wooten was born in Columbus County North Carolina on October 16, 1840. He enlisted as a private in K company of the 18th North Carolina in May 1861. He eventually rose to the rank of major to date from May 3, 1863. He was wounded at Chancellorsville, but served until Appomattox, winning some acclaim for his job commanding sharpshooters in Lane's brigade during the Petersburg Campaign.

Wooten died in Maxton, North Carolina on November 26, 1923.
