Elijah Benton Withers

A graduate of the University of North Carolina, class of 1859, Withers was born in Caswell County North Carolina on December 31, 1836. He became captain of A company of the 13th North Carolina, eventually rising to lieutenant colonel by October 1864. Withers was wounded at Gettysburg but served until Appomattox. After the War, he served in the North Carolina legislature and worked as a lawyer. In 1876, he moved to Danville Virginia. He died there on April 23, 1898.
