Henry Watson Williamson

Henry Watson Williamson was born in Norfolk, Virginia on September 23, 1823. He graduated from VMI in 1845 and served as a lieutenant in the Mexican War. After returning home, he became a civil engineer.

Williamson joined the 6th Virginia as a lieutenant in G company; then spent time as an engineer on Craney Island on special duty. He returned to the 6th in the spring of 1862 as its lieutenant colonel. Williamson was wounded in the thigh at Spotsylvania and lost an arm in the battle of the Crater. He retired on December 21, 1864. After the War, he was a librarian at VMI from 1876 to 1884. He died on October 10, 1884 and was buried in Lexington, Virginia.
