John McLeod Turner
Turner was born in Washington D.C. and served as an engineer in Rowan County North Carolina before the war. At age 21, he became captain of F company of the 7th North Carolina. He rose to the rank of lieutenant colonel by the end of November 1864. Turner was wounded at Fredericksburg and at Second Manassas. He also was wounded in the abdomen and taken prisoner at Gettysburg. Held until September 1864, Turner was paroled at Salisbury, North Carolina on May 1, 1865.
