Thomas Ringland Stockdale
Stockdale was born near West Union Church in Greene County, Pennsylvania on March 28, 1828. He graduated from Jefferson College (now Washington and Jefferson) and moved to Pike County Mississippi where he was a school teacher. He graduated from the University of Mississippi in 1859 and was admitted to the bar.
Stockdale enlisted as a private in the 16th Mississippi and rose through its ranks. He later raised a unit of cavalry. Stockdale served in Congress after the War as a Democrat from 1887 to 1895. In December 1896, he was made a judge of the State supreme court. Stockdale died in Summit, Pike County on January 8, 1899. He was buried in Woodlawn Cemetery.
