Biography of George Badger Singeltary

A native of Pitt County in North Carolina, Singeltary married Cora Manly a daughter of the governor of North Carolina. His Confederate army career began when he became captain of H company of the 27th North Carolina. He became colonel of the regiment on September 28, 1861.

Singeltary was suspended by a court martial after D.H. Hill accused him of disobediance. He resigned, but later became colonel of the 44th Regiment on March 20, 1862. Leading the regiment, he was killed in battle at Tranter's Creek in North Carolina on June 5, 1862.
