Sion Hart Rogers
Born on September 30, 1825 near Raleigh in Wake County, Rogers graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1846. He studied law and was admitted to the bar. Rogers was elected as a Whig to Congress in 1853.
After a stint with the 14th North Carolina, he became colonel of the 47th Regiment in March 1862. He resigned on January 5, 1863 to become Attorney General of North Carolina.
After the War, Rogers was elected to Congress as a Democrat in 1871. He died in Raleigh on August 14, 1874. He was buried there in the City Cemetery.
