Biography of Richard H. Riddick

Riddick was born in North Carolina. He served as a lieutenant of US cavalry from 1855 to 1861. He listed his residence as in Gates County.

Riddick became a lieutenant colonel and served as an AAG to General Gatlin in June 1861. He also served as North Carolina's Adjutant General in July 1861. He then became AAG to General Joseph R. Anderson in early 1862. Riddick then accepted the colonelcy of the 34th North Carolina on April 2, 1862.

While commanding the regiment at the battle of Ox Hill on September 1, 1862, Riddick suffered a mortal wound. He died on September 11.
