John Haynes Pate

Pate survived the Civil War only to die in a train accident. He was born in November 1830 and served in the Georgia legislature before the War. He became a lieutenant in K company of the 49th Georgia in March 1862 eventually rising to the rank of major by July 1863. However, he resigned in Feb. 1864. After the War, Pate was a businessman and farmer in Hawkinsville. He was killed in a train wreck near Blackshear, Georgia on March 17, 1888.
