William Allison Owens

Owens was born in Charlotte on September 19, 1833 and graduated from the University of North Carolina in 1856. He married in 1857. He became a lieutenant in B company of the 1st North Carolina, then major of the 34th North Carolina in November 1861. He then transfered to the 11th and then to the 53rd Regiments, eventually rising to the colonelcy of the 53d.

Owens was wounded in the side and hand at Spotsylvania. He was mortally wounded at Snicker's Ford on July 19, 1864. He was buried in the Presbyterian Churchyard in Charlotte.
