Andrew McCampbell Nelson
Colonel Andrew M. Nelson of Tennessee served as a temporary commander of J.R. Davis's brigade during the Petersburg Campaign.
He was born in Tennessee on March 2, 1830. He married to Laura Caldwell. During the antebellum period, he served as a judge in Carroll County, Mississippi. He enlisted as a captain in Company A of the 42nd Mississippi. He was wounded at the Wilderness and captured at Hatcher's Run. He was released on June 18, 1865.
After the War, Nelson served as secretary to Governor of Mississippi and fellow Confederate officer John M. Stone. Nelson died in Winona, Mississippi on October 2, 1883.
