William James Montgomery

Montgomery was born on August 14, 1834 and graduated from the University of North Carolina as a member of class of 1855. He lived in Stanley County prior to the War.

Enlisting as captain of D company of the 28th North Carolina, he eventually rose to the rank of major in June 1862. However, ill health caused him to resign in October.

After the War, Montgomery was a teacher and a judge. He died on June 28, 1912.
