Oliver Pendelton Meares

Meares was born in Wilmington on February 24, 1828. He graduated from the University of North Carolina in 1848 and became a lawyer in Wilmington.

He became captain of I company of the 18th North Carolina Regiment in April 1861, eventually rising to lieutenant colonel in July. However, he was defeated at the reorganization and later served with the 61st North Carolina as a captain.

Post-war, Meares was a judge in New Hanover County. He died in Wilmington on November 22, 1906 and was buried in Oakdale Cemetery.
