Francis Mallory

Mallory was born in Norfolk, Virginia on May 28, 1833. He graduated from VMI in 1853 and then served as a lieutenant in the US Army from 1855 to 1861. He also acted as an engineer for the Norfolk and Petersburg Railroad.

Mallory became colonel of the 55th Virginia Infantry on September 12, 1861. He served in that capacity until he was killed at Chancellorsville. In 1866, he was reburied in Elmwood Cemetery in Norfolk.
