William Lester

Lester was born in the Newberry District of South Carolina on October 9, 1819. Standing 6-2, he began his career as captain of G company of the 13th South Carolina, rising to the rank of lieutenant colonel by June 1864. Lester was wounded at Fredericksburg and served until Appomattox.

After the War, Lester was a farmer in Newberry. He died on November 11, 1886 and was buried in Prosperity, South Carolina.
