Herbert D. Lee

A native of Rutherford County, Lee became captain of D company of the 16th North Carolina in May 1861 at the age of 30. He rose to the rank of major. Lee was wounded in the knee at Fredericksburg. He resigned because of that wound on January 27, 1864. Lee lived in Cleveland County North Carolina after the War, dying sometime after 1881.
