William C. Lankford

Lankford was born in Franklin County, North Carolina in 1833. He attended the University of Virginia, eventually graduating from the University of New York in 1854 with a medical degree. He returned to Franklin County where he was a doctor.

Standing 6-0 at his enlistment, Lankford became captain of F company of the 47th North Carolina in February 1862. He rose to major by March 1864.

Lankford was post-master of Wake Forest after the War as well as a county commissioner. He died in 1902.
