Hunt

Colonel Isaac F. Hunt was temporary commander of the famous South Carolina brigade in the Light Division during the 1864 Petersburg Campaign.

Born in the Newberry District of South Carolina on November 16, 1833, Hunt attended the Citadel. He married Harriet Austin in 1860. He enlisted as private in company B of the 1st South Carolina in 1861, but quickly became a captain in the 13th Regiment. Hunt was wounded at Gaines Mill, Fredericksburg, and again at Fussell's Mill. He particularly distingushed himself at Spotsylvania's Bloody Angle. He later wrote an account of that fight.

He was a merchant in Greenville after the War. Hunt died on April 13, 1900. His uniform coat is on display in Fredericksburg.
