Daniel Heyward Hamilton, Jr

D.H. Hamilton

Son of the D.H. Hamilton who was colonel in Gregg's brigade, this Daniel Hamilton was born in Charleston, South Carolina on March 19, 1838 and graduated from the Citadel. He lived in Orange County North Carolina before the War and taught at the Hillsboro Military Insitute. He became major of the 13th North Carolina in May 1861 but was defeated at reelection. He then served on General Ripley's staff and as an adjutant with the 1st South Carolina. He was disabled by a wound recieved at Sheperdstown. Hamilton died on September 18, 1908 in Hillsboro, North Carolina.
