James Robert Hagood

The brother of Confederate General Johnson Hagood, James Hagood was born on November 26, 1844. He attended the Citadel, then becoming a private in C company of the 1st South Carolina (his brother's regiment). He rose through the ranks to become an officer and was appointed colonel of the unit in November 1863 -- still short of his 19th birthday.

Hagood served until Appomattox. He died shortly after the War on November 15, 1870 when he was injured in a train wreck.
