Forney George

Born in Columbus County North Carolina, George graduated from the University of North Carolina and was a lawyer prior to the War.

He became captain of C company of the 18th North Carolina at the age of 32 in 1861. He eventually rose to the rank of lieutenant colonel by November 1862. George was wounded at Cedar Mountain and at Chancellorsville. He resigned on May 11, 1863 to serve in the state legislature.
