William Archibald Forbes

Born on May 31, 1824, Forbes graduated from the Virginia Military Insititute as a member of the class of 1842. He subsquently became president of Clarksville College in Tennessee.

Forbes joined the 14th Tennessee as captain of Company A in 1861. He was promoted to colonel on June 6, 1861. While leading his regiment, he was mortally wounded on August 31, 1862 at the battle of Second Manassas. He died on September 2.
