Biography of George Washington Flowers

Flowers was born in Alexander County, North Carolina on April 25, 1842. He was a teacher. His height at enlistment was listed as 5-11.

He enlisted as a lieutenant in Company G of the 38th North Carolina in November of 1861. He eventually rose to the rank of lieutenant colonel to date from June 18, 1864. Flowers was wounded twice during the War: at Mechanicsville during the Seven Days and at the Wilderness. He was paroled at Appomattox.

Flowers married after the War to Sallie J. Haynes in 1870. He was a merchant in Taylorsville. He died in Durham in 1918.
