Richard Gill Mills Dunovant
Born in Chester, South Carolina on May 18, 1821, Dunovant attended South Carolina College and was a physican and planter in Edgefield before the outbreak of the War. He brought Mexican War service experience to the Confederate army; he had served as a colonel there.
Dunovant served in South Carolina's secession convention. He became colonel of the 12th Regiment in September 1861, but resigned on April 2, 1862. He therefore served from 1864 to 1865 in the state legislature. After the War, Dunovant wrote a Mexican War regimental history book. He died in Edgefield on May 12, 1898.
