Charles Alfred Crump
Crump was born in Powhatan County Virginia on August 16, 1822. He attended VMI and was a colonel in the county milita prior to the War. He also served as a principal of a school in Burkeville and in the Virginia legislature.
Crump became colonel of the 26th Virginia in the summer of 1861 but was dropped at the spring 1862 reorgnization. He joined the 16th Virginia as its colonel on August 28, 1862. Crump was killed on August 30, 1862 at the battle of Second Manassas. He is buried in Haymarket.
