Edward Croft

Croft was born in Greenville on January 4, 1835. He graduated from the Citadel in 1856. Croft became captain of H company of the 14th South Carolina in August 1861. He eventually rose to the rank of lieutenant colonel in 1863.

Croft was wounded twice during the War: first during the Seven Days, then a second time at Gettysburg. He served until the end of the War and was at Appomattox with the regiment. After the War, Croft returned to Greenville where he was a lawyer and a planter. He died on May 9, 1892 and was buried at Christ Church Cemetery in Greenville.
