Biography of William Steptoe Christian

Christian was born in Middlesex County on the day after Christmas in 1830. He graduated from Jefferson Medical College in 1851.

Christian joined the 55th Virginia as captain of C company on June 2, 1861. He eventually rose to the rank of colonel by May 2, 1863. He was captured at Falling Waters on July 14, 1863 but was exchanged in March 1864. He retired from the army on March 14, 1865 to seek a medical post.

After the War, Christian served as a doctor in Middlesex County and as the superintendant of the schools. He also was President of the Medical Society of Virginia.

Christian died on December 15, 1910 in Urbanna, Virginia.
