Edwin Faust Bookter

Edwin Bookter was born in the Richland District of South Carolina in 1837. He attended South Carolina College. Bookter then was elected to the South Carolina legislature, serving there between 1860 and 1861.

He enlisted as the captain of D company of the 12th South Carolina in August 1861. He was promoted to colonel of the regiment on May 6, 1864.

Bookter was wounded at Gaines Mill, 2d Manassas, and at the Wilderness. His luck ran out when he was killed in action at Jones Farm on September 30, 1864 during the Petersburg Campaign.
