Biography of Francis Wilder Bird

Bird was born on April 6, 1830 and lived in Bertie County before the War. He attended both Brown University and Wake Forest University.

Bird became a lieutenant in L company of the 1st North Carolina, then captain of C company of the 11th North Carolina. He rose to the rank of lieutenant colonel to date from April 27, 1864.

Bird was mortally wounded at the battle of Reams Station during the Petersburg Campaign on August 25, 1864. He died the next day.
