James Aiken
Colonel of the 13th Alabama, Aiken was born in South Carolina on August 8, 1832 and moved to Alabama in 1854. Of a little over average height, he became captain of D company in July 1861. Aiken was wounded as lieutenant colonel of the regiment at Chancellorsville. He was wounded again at Brandy Station. Promoted to colonel on May 24, 1864, Aiken was taken prisoner near the very end of the War at High Bridge.
After the War, Aiken was an attorney in Gasden and served in politics. He died on June 22, 1908.
